The positions are for a period of 3 years. This are educational positions, which will provide promising research recruits an opportunity of professional development through studies towards a PhD. The position is connected to the PhD-programme at the Faculty of Economics and Management and the Faculty will be your employer. The positions are not restricted to a specific area of research, but the Department’s ability to offer academic supervision within the area of research is a prerequisite for employment.
A total of 10 PhD candidates are currently employed by the
Department. These 10 candidates are working on research projects related to the Economics of Education, Health Economics, Environmental- and Resource Economics, Macroeconometrics and Finance. The Department has a very active and inclusive work environment for PhD candidates. The Department of Economics strives to promote research at a high international level. As a part of this, contact with international educational and research institutions is important. Therefore, the Department encourages the appointee to spend 1-2 semesters at a foreign institution during the employment period. The Department contributes to facilitate this.
The main aim of a PhD position is to qualify the candidate for further work in economic research. The candidates must have completed a Master degree in Economics or Financial Economics or equivalent (120 ECTS), with a grade point average of B or equivalent according to NTNU’s grading scale.
Master students in the process of completing their degree may also apply.
The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant.

Salary and conditions
PhD candidates are remunerated in code 1017, and are normally remunerated at gross from NOK 449 400 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
The period of employment is 3 years, without required teaching duties. Employment in a PhD position requires admission to the PhD-programme in Economics. As a PhD candidate, you are required to participate in an organized PhD programme during the employment period. A condition of appointment is that you are qualified for admission to the PhD programme within three months of the appointments.
The appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
The appointment will be made in accordance with the current regulations concerning State Employees and Civil Servants. The employee is expected to accept possible changes in work tasks. Primary residency in Trondheim is a prerequisite.

A short project description, including your planned research topic, preliminary research question(s) and your chosen theory and method of research, must be provided.
