The University of Tennessee has an immediate opening for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position at the Soft Materials Group. The group includes researchers from the Department of Chemistry and Department of Physics and Astronomy at UT Knoxville and from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The main topics of the group are physics and physical chemistry of polymers and nano-composite materials, ionic liquids and polymer electrolytes. Research will center around experimental studies of ionic liquids and polymer-based materials, and soft matter dynamics in general. Candidate must have a PhD in Physics, Materials Science or a closely related field.

Documented knowledge of dielectric spectroscopy and/or rheology, and experience with their use are required. Additional knowledge of light scattering, neutron scattering, or scanning probe microscopy is beneficial. The candidate should be able to work independently and participate creatively in refining project directions. Previous postdoctoral experience is important. However, applicants should be not more than 5 years after PhD.
